So just started fishless cycling my 7 gallon, added 5ppm of Ammonia.

My question is, can I have the aquarium light on at all? or will that promote algae?

Thanks

EDIT: Also the Tank has no plants at all

Yup, lighting the tank will just produce algae. Besides, you've got no plants and no fish yet, so why would you want to light it yet?

Yes it would promote algae. I cycled with my light off. It saves having to buy bulbs about a month sooner, so unless you want algae, there really is no reason to leave it on.

Light = Algae.

Your benificial bacteria dont require light to grow so leave the lights off untill you are cycled.
