Question About Tff Online Chat

Thought I'd post this here as the pinned topic doesn't get that much activity....

Ok, from what I've read, whenever people try logging into the chat room they either have problems getting in or when they do get in there's nobody else in there.
I've tried the temporary link that The Wolf posted (on the last page of the pinned topic) and it works fine for me.
So why doesn't anyone use it?

During my few months on this forum, I've got to know the names of 'the regulars' i.e. the people, like me, that spend far too much time on this site while they should be doing other things - like working, for instance!!!
I'm pretty sure that some of these people, like myself, would enjoy using the chat room if there were more people in it. Or am I just assuming something that is completely not correct???

So basically, I was just thinking this -
if there was a demand for it, would it be worth setting a date/time (maybe a two hour slot, one evening per week to begin with) that we could all say we'll log in and finally get the benefits of instant replies that a chat room can offer?
When I say 'all log in', I use the word 'all' figuratively. I know that whatever time is set, there will be people who won't be able to join because of prior engagements/committments etc.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this.
Tell me if it sounds like a good idea or a complete load of tosh!
And let me know if you'd be willing to join in. If not, why not?

PS: If any Mods are reading this and are thinking this is something that they should be sorting out, and not a junior member - then please accept my apologies. I'm just trying to gauge possible levels of interest in a part of this excellent site that is so under used at the moment

well i can't come on chat from work, try at home sometimes but none of the temporary measures seem to work for me at the moment, some of them have in the past but i tried to get on a few times this weekend and couldn't

i appreciate it's obviously a pretty big problem or it would have been resolved by now, but I really wish you could fix it and we could just get on through the normal link [/moan]

but yeah if it was more accessible i'd like to use it

I just tried using it literally a few hours ago and it worked for me.
I think for those who've had problems with getting into it it's probably a browser/security issue (pop up blocker stopping access etc) or they may need to download the latest version of java from the sun microsystems website (if they're using an old pc, maybe)
Note: if the page doesn't load properly, try refreshing the page while holding down the Ctrl key - this 'sometimes' gets round some of the Internet Explorer security issues

As for timings, I know most people probably wouldn't be able to use it in the day - so maybe an evening slot of 8-10pm would be more suitable

I would use it. Iv'e gotten on acouple of times but no one was in so I got out.

I always have prob's trying to get on, look at the one in fishforums.com, theirs is awsome and i have never had a prob before when i try to get on theirs. Maybe we could get on like theirs?

And when you say 'lots' - how many, just out of interest?
It's just that whenever I've tried there never seems to be anyone in there.
Do you think it could possibly be that this post has brought it to people's attention and they've tried looking in there?

And when does it seem busiest in your experience?

When we say busy it usually means we've got about 5 or 6 people actually talking, so thats not including the lurkers

The people we do have on there only tend to be regulars, we have the odd new person, but when we say busy it means most of the regulars are there.

Personally i think that William should just do something about the broken link and it would sort out alot of problems.

edit: the busiest time is usually late afternoon-evening (UK time as most of the "chatters" are from the UK but we have some US people aswell!) as people are back from work etc. If you go on before that you might find one or two people but generally there wont really be anyone there.

On a separate note George, I've finally started cycling the nano tank at the moment.
Still not 100% sure what I'm going to be doing with it but have a few ideas in my head...
