I just though I'd let you all know that I've had a letter published in Practical Fishkeeping magazine (UK) Nov 05. It's in the Lateral Lines section where readers express there views, opinions etc. Page 92, "Dispelling some myths". They've even printed a photo of "my lovely planted aquarium".

For those who are interested, it focuses on the use of nitrates and phosphates in the planted tank, in particular they're not the enemy once assumed.

Great! Congratulations! PFK is a great magazine. I get mine shipped to me in the States. I used to buy them at the newstand, but they're not offered anywhere around here anymore. In my opinion, they're the best fisk-keeping mag out there, particularly for coldwater fishkeeping.

Thanks. PFK is a good all-rounder and caters for all aspects of the hobby, but for my taste too little attention is given to the planted tank.

I wrote this in my original letter, explaining that there was dispropotionate representation for the planted side (especially when you see how much attention is given to marines) and that there were perhaps more planted aquarists then they may have given credit in the UK. I hoped that may have printed this with a reply but they edited it just to include the nitrate and phosphate observations. Still, I am pleased they printed this.

 May I take the time to congratulate you on even getting something published in Practical Fishkeeping magazine. I have heard tales over the years that it is very hard to have something printed as they have their own resident writers (the word clique was mentioned on numerous occaisions).

Fantastic ! I think those of us who read the original article to which you responded, were as puzzled by some of the comments in that article - so well done for writing in AND getting it printed :D

Thanks, sounds like I should feel privilaged.

Thanks again. I was pleasantly surprised it was printed so soon after sending the letter - especially as it contradicts the planted article in the previous month's edition.

If the rumour mill is right then I think you should. If my memory serves me correctly then their resident plant (specialist) is Peter Bradley. Perhaps not as technical as you, going by past articles (or maybe he has to keep it non-technical for the masses).
Anyway George, it's fab that you are gertting some recognition for your efforts.
Regards
BigC

P.S. Whats the wages like.

Well done, congrats.

:hyper: that is sooooooooo cool!!!!!!!!!! Your letter was very well written so I would have been gutted if it didn't make the magazine at all. Congratulations!! It's out tomorrow? And they put a photo of your tank in there? Wow you're famous!!!

Well done mate :)
