Problems With Female Betta

Ok. Live? I'll try to look for some. Very limited selections around here. I can only go to Petco and a local place, the local place I believe doesn't have it and we all know how Petco treats bettas.

Should I still use epsom salts, or is it not possible because she is in a shared tank?

New problems!
She has a weird little bump that's purple and looks like a raised bruise between her eye and her mouth. (If you think her mouth looks funny besides that it's because when she had tank-mates she was food aggressive and injured her mouth very badly) She also has some ireggular bumps (one or two) right behind the main swelling. Does that help diagnose her? Also, can the male "catch" whatever she has?

Maybe I should just stick to male bettas. Also, I'm going to ask the fish store guys for their advice as well. maybe they can get some live food or something.
Her condition hasn't changed. She doesn't show many other symptoms except for being a little lethargic. But I'm not very hopeful anymore. :(

Also, should I pick up some antibiotics? If so, would you reccomend any brands?

As expected, my family was not really open to the idea of taking a fish to the vet. (They regretted that "can't you just buy a new one" comment, though. ) Am I pretty much just going on luck now? I think it could be that she had trouble passing the eggs originally, and then her stealing the other girls' food was like conditioning. But in a bad way. I'm probably not making sense. :) Poor girl. :-(

TBH, I think you do need professional advice, can you not just phone your local vet and ask them over the phone? Tell them you can't afford to come in.

Can you get any pictures of the new syptoms? theres no point moving the male out now because if it is catchable he probably already has it, so when diagnosed treat the whole tank.

as for feeding cut it out completely and just feed pea at least for a few days see if that helps her swelling.

reguarding the epson salt, a salt dip would be best IMO although unsure of the doses

HTH x

Well, the new symptoms are probably visible in the photos-- It's not "new" so much as "obsessively staring at the fish."

Any advice on salt dips?
