Okay so I know i've seen this before but I just want to confirm. If you have prime in your water and you test for ammonia, you take the reading right away correct? Am I also correct in saying that if you let this sit for any length of time and the color will change give a false positive for ammonia?

prime doesnt get rid of ammonia, it converts it to less toxic ammonium, and you will still get a result for ammonia. its not a false positive.

The test kits do not measure the harm to your fish, just the chemicals.

Yes i understand all of those points, my question was you take the reading right away instead of waiting 5 minutes right?

No, you have to wait the full five minutes or the ammonia reading will be incorrect (I assume you're using an API test).

because it doesnt rid the tank of ammonia, that would generally indicate you would carry out the test as normal
