Pregnant or Dropsy??

i thought my female guppy was pregnant and laying on the bottom of the tank because she was about to give birth. 4 days later she’s still laying on the bottom and has her scales sticking up. i still can’t tell if she’s pregnant or if it’s dropsy, she has had babies before.

The fish has a bad bacterial infection, hence the scales sticking up all over her body. I would euthanise her

A bit of a strange question but how do you euthanise a fish?

Some people use clove oil mixed with a little bit of alcohol. For small fish, you can wrap them in a paper towel and hit them on the head with something solid. This can be messy tho.

This is the least traumatic (at least emotionally to humans) way I’ve found. Looks like they just go to sleep. I personally could never bring myself to stun a fish and crush/cut off their head, even though that’s over for them quicker.

Clove Oil or the Freezer is what I use. Clove Oil is the most humane.
