Pre filter question

Hi I have an aquael ultramax external filter and it has a pre filter at the top.
How often would you rinse the pre filter sponge out in a bucket of tank water? I did it last week and wondered if it should be a weekly thing.

every week if possible to stop it blocking up and slowing or stopping the flow of water into the filter.

I think that can be included best by you for your specific circumstances. I have mesh prefilters in all my filters (10 AC110,s, 2 fx6, several others). I clean all prefilters weekly in sink water. For others, in other tanks? Who knows….

I have prefilters on my filter inputs, and I have to rinse them out every week in most cases so as not to prevent input flow.

Yes. Since it's the first media of the filter, it can get pretty gunked up.

I do it every week when I do my water changes because moss always gets stuck in them I also replace them about but every six months
