Juwel Bioflow filter questions

Hi, I have recently (the last 7 days*) set up a new Juwel Rio 125 with internal bioflow filter and am concerned that it's not filtering out fine particles (even not so fine particles) as well as it should do, as you can see from the attached photos. In the shot of the filter you can see the extent of the problem, and in the shot of the full tank you can see the positioning of the outlet, and the airstone (there's a piece of blue card behind the tank for contrast). I can see that water and particles are being drawn in at the top of the filter, where I have two of the supplied fine filter white pads, and I've just added some wool, visible in the picture.

Can anyone suggest what might be the problem here? Is the positioning of the airstone and the direction of the outlet disrupting the circulation, or is it a filter issue?

*The tank has been set up with Nitrico Goop, and I am checking parameters daily.

The air stone at the other side of the tank should not cause any problems.
My understanding is that water is drawn in at the bottom of the compartment- under the outlet tube- check that it is not covered with substrate etc. The coarse sponge should be low down and finer sponge further up. I can see the floss is correctly located at the top.
