Hi there. I would like to make some sort of cover for my aquaclear 70 powerhead intake so fish or plants don't get sucked into it but I can't think of anything, does anyone have any advice or ideas? Thanks.

Get a largish cylinder of foam media (pond section in LFS), dig out the center to about half way through then push it over the intake. Not only does this not restrict the flow but it acts as an extra biological filter site.

i started of doing the same!

Doesnt it already have a small intake strainer? My Aquaclear 20's both have little strainers, I haven't modified anything and they are fine in the tank.

You can also buy filter attachments for them at most LFS for less than £5.

Is this the type of stuff you mean?

And no it doesn't have a strainer or anything...

^^Aye that stuff will do to make a strainer with. A trick to get a hole in it, is to freeze the foam in a small amount of water, and drill into it while frozen :good:

Thats a really good idea! ^^^

I struggled to cut my last piece of foam!

Thank you for the freezing idea :) Need to find my dads drill lol

Bloody brilliant idea! :D I picked away with a large pair of tweesers

Yes 'Phage', thats the thing, if you need to trim it down a bit an electric carving knife does the trick

How about setting the power head on top of something like this. I find a power head the perfect driver for a sponge filter.

Of course other sizes are more suitable to other tanks and power heads. I use one of these as the only filter on a 40 gallon breeder NPT.
