Power Heads Or New Filter

Just looking into creating more air flow in my tank, obviously the cheaper option will be a power head but I have a 260l tank and not really sure what power heads are worth getting, if any?

I will most likely be stocking up to 25-30 cichlids once the tank is fully cycled (this will most likely be about 6 months due to cash) and will look into getting another ex1200 (what I currently have) before I overstock.

Is it worth getting a power head or should I just put that cash I would have spent towards the other filter?

I dont actually know how the power heads actually work - Do they do anything other than ripple the water?

I just added a Hydor Koralia 425gph powerhead to my tank. It's basically an electric circulation pump that creates a water current. All my fish except the Danios love swimming against the current it creates. I think it helps in keeping my sand clean by directing waste towards my filter intake tubes. If it were me and the choice was another filter or a powerhead I would get another filter first and the powerhead later.
