Is there anything i could use lying around the house to stuff in my filter that would be safe to polish the water its for my 60l i added sand so its still a little cloudy and its unattractive my other tank was the same but i stuffed some filter wool in and its crystal clear but i have none left and i don't wanna take it out as its doing a good job

It i don't want a lot of surface agitation it houses a betta and it has carbon in already just some sort of material to stuff in the filter would be great but i don't no what i could use that's just lying around my house some where maybe the wool in pillow cases ?

how old is the carbon? any older than 2 days and its useless, whats causing the cloudynes? and why will surface agitation hurt through an airstone?

its a new filter and its in a modded biorb i have just turned the nozzle up to the surface for a little more agitation the cloudiness is because i added sand its only a little cloudy but just wanted it clearer buy adding some media as it worked great for my other tank

If the pillow stuffing is flame retardent then you cant use it, as it covered in something that would leech into the tank water, if it isnt then its fine to use. Failing that, teddy bear stuffing can be used.

Run teddies run

Dunno, but the stuff used to stuff them can be used for filter floss, so long of course it hasnt been coated in flame retardent stuff, which from hobby shops etc it hasnt been. Lots of people use it. Although Im not sure how many resort to mutilating their teddies to get it

Hi MrWhite :)

If anyone in your house makes pillows or stuffed toys, look on the bag of stuffing. If it says 100% polyester it's probably the same thing as regular filter floss that you buy from the lfs. If it is any kind of a blend, it might not be safe. If you're unsure about it, it's probably best not to take any chances. :D

Can you use cotton wool.

A big bag of polyester floss is cheap, available at any craft or big box store such as WalMart. I use it as a mechanical filtration media in box filters, I imagine Inchworm uses it the same way.

Get the cheapest you can find, it has no chemicals added to it to make it less flammable. Before you dissect teddy, be aware that most all commercially made children's toys do have to pass some pretty strict regulations, being fire resistant is one of them.

It wouldn't be good if ol' Ted gave his life to find out his innards are bad for your fish.
