I got a plecostomus a little less than two weeks ago at my LFS, and then I went back today to get two more as he wasn't really doing to much to the algae in my tank, and I figured he'd like some friends. When I bought the first one, the employee who helped me referred to them as "dwarf plecos", and said the adults never have grown past 2.5 inches for them. I figured since I only have one in my 20 gallon long, I'd be fine. Well, I identified him as Parotocinclus haroldoi, and I found out those like to be in groups. So I went back to get more today, and the guy said they were bristlenose plecos. I was sort of shocked and nervous at the same time, because I know BNs can get pretty big. I bought them anyways, figuring that if they really were BNs I could rehome them. So, can you help me out and ID them? Here's some pictures of all three. http://imgur.com/a/N69vR

Yeah those are Bristlenoses. Young ones but still BNs

That means I'll have to rehome those two when they get to big.

Lolno, Bristlenoses are the smallest plecos you can get. Common plecos are the ones that grow huge.

Parotocinclus species generally stay the same size as otos. So around 2 inches.

I have a golden/albino Bristlenose and he's currently about 4 inches he's only supposed to get to about 6 max or so. I bought a regular one for my 75 gallon this week but he's pretty much near death. He hasn't moved unless I move him, he's still breathing but thats it. Got a feeling he should be gone by the morning :/

plecos dont move much during the day they are nocturnal, BN are more moveable during the day than others like commons but still nocturnal so they will eat and hunt at night

I know but I could pick him up with my hand and drop him and he would drop to the bottom like a dead fish. I was almost running late for work so I couldnt check him properly but he turned pretty much light grey so I'm pretty sure he's gone. My golden bristlenose I see zooming around my tank more in the day then the night. They had more goldens when I was at the lfs but they were babies, not even an inch long so I opted for a darker, larger one
