Can someone please measure the height of their fluval fx-5!
Different websites state different things.
I want to know how much height my cabinet needs to have in order to get one in and running (hoses etc included).

Please help, thanks.

It's amazing how much information changes depending on what website you look at.....nothing beats personal knowledge ;)

Sods law you finally decide on the filter and it could be a squeeze, wish I could help but don't have one.

Allow ~21" for the in/out connectors and the pipes having some curvature manouvre space.

Tell me about it mate. I'ce managed to cancel the transaction on the eheim 2250, but now have nothing i can replace it with!

Ah darn it, i only have 20" in height....

Does anyone have an exact measurement for me??

20" only gets you to the top of the connector above the flow adjusters and with the pipes clamping onto these at ~45 degrees, I'd say you need at least another 0.75" above that.

What is constraining height, a tight fitting cavity in a stand?

Literally that is the max height of the inside of my cabinet (on a 7x2x2foot tank believe it or not!)

Argh, any suggestions on a similar output filter that is a tad shorter? Depth and width are not a problem...

Could you cut a large hole in the cupboard bottom to recess it into? Shouldn't affect structural integrity of the stand as it's the bottom sheet :)

It might look pretty, but why not put the FX5 as far into the stand cavity as it will go and position both pipe clamp facing out? If need be, you could them bend each pipe round the stand divider to then send the pipes to the back of the stand and up the back of the tank.

I have quick access to my FX5 right now for this thread because I moved mine indoors to work alongside an Eheim 2078 (~1150lph true turnover) on my Rio240 for my African riverine fish, the FX5 is currently in front on the stand with very rough and ready positioning of the pipes and the mains lead running under a rug to a power point on the other side of the room... I am more of a functionality over asthetics kind of guy. :D

What's the width/diameter of the FX5 compared to the cabinet width and depth?

Well my cabinet (i have four seperate ones) are each 21" deep and 21" wide. Its just height that is the cap at 20".

Hmm i do not think i quite follow? do you mean have the pipe clamps and pipes hanging out the front of the cabinet and then going to the back? If that is what you meant, i just couldnt bring myself to do it :(

Do we know the width of the FX5 at its widest point?

At the handles, 14". Wondering if tilting the filter would solve the issue?

Preloved, I think you got my drift. Does the stand literally just have one central cavity for a filter, or are there for example a cupboard either side of a central cavity? My idea relied on the latter, so literally just a few inches of pipe would double back inside the stand.

Tilting the filter may cause issues with the water flow and could damage the impellor, etc. so probably not advisable (going by the way my Eheim sounds weird if its tilted when running).

A 14" wide hole in the bottom of the cabinet would leave an edge of 3.5" all the way around which would not affect the structural integrity of the stand at all and would solve all your problems.
