Please Help First Tropical Setup

At the moment i am pretty short on space as i still live with parents, but hopefully should be moving before next summer so i was wanting to learn now and when i have my own place i can accomadate for a bigger tank,

To be perfectly honest i was favoring the fluval on looks more than anything else, i am open to suggestions on any other tanks, i would go a bit bigger but want to be in the region of £100/£200 thanks everyone

Hey all, i have seen a bigger fluval edge, it holds 46 litres, do i have more options with this tank??

If it is 12 gallons you can have fish like bettas, gouramis, neons, cardinals, rasbora, micro rasbora, endlers, guppies, platies, white cloud mountain minnows, a female Betta sorority and ember tetras. Which of these would you like most of the ones I listed above are shoaling fish. So pick a few and we sort out stocking :good:

I like the look of bettas, neons, Platies and rasbora, can all them be together in one tank??

Yes, but not in a tank that size.

Neons need to be in groups of 5 or more, same for rasboras. Platies can be kept as individuals, but I believe they are better with a few. Bettas are fine alone (actually have to be kept with no other bettas). The issue isn't the grouping of fish, the issue is the size of the tank. There just isn't enough room for all these. You'd be looking at close to 15 fish. The standard is about 1 inch of fish per gallon of water. This would be a total of about 30-40 inches of fish.

stocking that you can have is
#1. 9 to 10 rasbora, 1 betta and some shrimp or none
#2. 9 to 10 neons, 1 betta and some shrimp or none
#3. 4 to 6 platies and a bettta, but make sure that they do not have very bright colors or long flowing fins (platies) some shrimp or not
#4. 3 platies, 5 to 6 neons, a betta and some shrimp or none
#5. 3 platies, 5 to 6 rasbora, a betta and some shrimp or none
something about the betta. make sure that it is the last fish added, and monitor its behavior, for a while after it is added and if it shows aggression to the other fish, you will have to remove him

African dwarf frog, pearl blue shrimp and a male betta, would this work in a 46l fluval edge??

Right im going to buy my tank tommorow so i would like one last bit of help, the three things i would love in my tank are male betta, ADF's and some neons. Please can you tell me what combination of all 3 would work in a 23l tank and a 46l tank, if i can have 1 betta 2 frogs and 3/4/5 neons in a 23l i will get the new edge but if that combo will not work ill buy the 46l! Thanks again everyone for your help, im getting there haha

it will only work in a 46 liter :good:

Im thinking of getting a male betta, 3 crystal shrimp, 2 ADF and a group of neons??

Sorry but I disagree - - in MOST cases, the frogs end up losing in such an arrangement.
They really benefit from a species only tank designed around their needs, not the needs of fish. Also, when put in a community setting you have to take great care in feeding the frogs individually because they are very slow at finding food. They are nearly blind and find it by nosing around. A fish like betta and neons will quickly see the food and eat most before the frog can even find it.

The frogs also need different food than fish - they have a different dietary need. Often they end up eating left over flake they come across on the floor and they end up being malnourished.
