Hey all, im new to this site so im not sure if there are any posts like this but anyway,

I have kept coldwater fish for about 5 years now and im thinking of settin up a tropical tank

I like the look of the fluval edge as its not to big for my room and looks the part!

I have seen some threads on here that say you need to cycle the tank, ammonia, ph level, test kit blah blah lol and i REALLY dont have a clue what it means :(

So basically i need as much info as possible on how to start up a tropical tank using the fluval edge.

The kit im looking at buying contains:

Tank
Pump
Filter
Stone
Lights

I am going to buy a heater made for the tank from ebay,

Is there any other equipment i will need?

Sorry for not knowing anything but i have to learn somehow haha

Thanks in advance for your help :)

you will also need decor
and for the cycling read up on the beginner's resource center :good: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/277264-beginners-resource-center/

well heater, filter, test kit (API master test kit), water conditioner, what type of filter are you using in the cold water tank? and to be honest, the fluvel edge is a small tank, id say you wouldnt be able ti get tha many fish in there imo

Maybe this for stocking
stocking #1
5 to 6 micro rasbora and some shrimp or none
Stocking #2
3 to 4 endlers and 1 male betta and some shrimp or none
stocking #3
5 to 6 neon tetras and some shrimp or none
stocking #4
4 or 5 endlers

Thanks snake and fishy friend

White9870: im just using the filter that came with the tank, im not looking for a massive set up to begin with, maybe 4 or 5 small fish and as i get to learn how to maintain the tank ill then look at getting a bigger, better set up

Fishy friend: i saw someone mention they had shrimp in theirs, would they be ok?

Your welcome :)

yes shrimp would be fine but if you get a betta you might want to go for some of he larger species of shrimp like an amano or ghost instead of the smaller ones like red cherry srimp

FF2: i like the look of stocking #2 would it be possible to put some neon tatra in with them?

White9870? Dont have a clue haha, its a clear tube leading to a blue stone if that helps?

i dont think that you could fit neon tetras into a tank that already has that stocking because you should have 5 neon tetras at the least and 5 neon tetras 4 to 5 endlers and 1 male betta sounds like way to much for a fluval edge

I have an Edge with guppies in.
It's a great looking tank, but can be fiddly to keep clean.
The media in my filter came with sponge, ceramic balls & carbon ( which I took out & replaced with more balls)

Seems like im limited to what i can do with the fluval edge, but i suppose its just whilst i learn how to keep a tank going. Just bought an api master testing kit so theres a start haha

Is the clear tube and blue stone not just an air stone rather than a filter?
Have you considered going for a larger tank? Smaller tanks are/can be harder to keep the levels right and a bigger tank would give you more stocking options.
Are you limited on space etc for the tank? Will you be buying new? You can get some great 2nd hand bargains on eBay!
