Plasma Tanks

If I had this I'd buy a small group of danios or a pair of honey gouramis. I'd understock to make life easier.
danios are way too active for a tank this narrow, but good call on the honey gouramis! a pair of sparkling or pygmy gouramis might also be a choice, but they can be fairly sensitive to water quality--bringing back the issue of "how the @#%$ am i gonna clean this thing?"

how would you get a gravel vac in a tank only 5 inches wide? maybe this tank is suitable for very very small fish like ghost shrimp, a big MAYBE with pygmy cories, and maybe something like neon. how would do put in the decor?

Interesting thread.

I've seen "photoframe" designs like this, but this was before I knew anything about keeping tropical fish. I remember it being planted with only neons in.

I think if space for a full sized tank is a problem then it's not a bad idea, altho I'd rather cut out a bit of wall and have a full sized tank in the wall (preferably between 2 rooms).

Cleaning would be a pain. But only because it would be at a high level.

As for stocking, I'm not sure on the inches per inches of surface area. But a quick google search suggests 1 inch of fish per 12 square inches...so that'd be 20 inches of fish. So 10 neons? or 7 neons and a trio of small corys? As someone else said as long as maintenance is kept up I cant see a huge problem with this.

I'm sure there is someone on here with a tank on a window sill that is 6 inches wide.

In this tank I saw in the public toilet they had managed to fit some sort of plant in, but it's still too two-dimensional, no getting away for shy or sensitive fish. And of course there is the lack of oxygen. And the problems of keeping clean.

I think you could decorate a tank like this just fine. You could find a piece of bogwood thats fairly tall, you could tie anubias nana to parts of the bogwood. There are plenty of small leaved plants out there...perhaps saggitaria sp.

I suggest that if you are seriouse about getting one of these tanks
then PM ava-banana as he has a tank that is 6" wide.
I'm sure he won't mind answering questions about matainance etc.

It has potential, but only if you choose the right fish and do the right maintanence. Oh and if you plan attaching it to the wall then you want to make sure that it is a retained FRAME, not just on a bracket attached to the wall. Otherwise it could potentially be quite dangerous.

In this tank which is almost deffinately between 25 and 30 gallons the best fish combination would surely be a school of cardinal tetra, i'm thinking 50-70. To clean up the bottom, pygmy or any dwarf species of corys, OR possibly ottos, probably about 5-6 total.

Deffinately use an external filter to minimise internal clutter to spoil the "picture" feel of the tank andmake sure you do at least weekly maintanence to keep the tank looking great. Be sure to invest in a magnetic bladed algae cleaner for easy and quick glass cleaning.
