Planted Nano Tank

ok i would probably go for 6-8 WCMM but my lfs also sell rosy red minnow i think they are quite often so i will research into other types
yes the cherry shrimp are the cheapest so probably go for them unless i can find anything else like them at the same price really
wat sort of filter do i want in there???
also what about those aquatic crabs? has anyone used them before in planted nano tanks because they do look quite nice
so for the carpet i can just buy a mossball or 2 and rip them up??
if your on about red clawed crabs they are brackish.
as for the filter i would go for an eden 501 external available from aqua essentials
Lol just get the exact same one from HK on ebay, think I paid £6 plus 12 postage, arrived 4 days later and works just the same :good: do an ebay search for 3 stage external or something similar and you should stumble accross it :)

i would say what i am going to get for my 35 litre, which is the ehiem aquaball 2208

ok thanks guys
about the shrimp then i have come across on aqua essentials cherry shrimp, tiger shrimp and new bee shrimp all at the same price
now i no they cherry shrimp will breed just wondering will the others do the same??
and if i was going to get a mix of all 3 say 5 of each type is that ok and they wont over populate the tank??
also how long do shrimp live for because i was looking at crystal red shrimp but they are a bit pricey at £12 each at the cheapest
i would probably only get one crystal red if i was going to

all of those three i believe breed in fresh water.
most shrimp live for 2 years+ if you going crystal reds go to trimar theyre 4 for £7 i think

ok thanks where did you say to get the red crystal shrimp from i cant find the website

ok thanks just one last question what should i feed the shrimp and will they just scavenge for it in the mossy bed???

Shrimp are excellent scavengers, although I've no idea what's available in Britain for shrimp food.
I really just wanted to mention for anyone thinking of putting a freshwater crab in a planted tank, I've just recently seen a shocking! (lol) photo of the results in a once-heavily-planted Walstad, although there may very likely be kinds of crabs not so interested in expensive aquatic plant salad mix.
(It just seemed rather rude to put that in with no response, however useless, to the OP's question - sorry, joshjames)

I would reccomend starting with cherry or tiger shrimp not crystal reds as these are still fairly new to the hobby so are very sensitive. You also need to be careful which shrimp species you put in the same tank. And someone said earlier in the thread that you will end up with 40-50 shrimps. You'll have a lot more than that! You will eventually have to start selling/giving away the babies to your lfs or people on here.
