I would like some plant suggestions for my tanks... they are looking kind of bland with just Anacharis. :/

Looking for some bushy, some tall, etc. Maybe Amazon Swords? Dwarf Hairgrass? Thoughts please...

Amazon swords are really good back ground plants along with limnophila sessiliflora

Other middle and foreground plants with nice tones to try are Crypts. - Wendtii, Beckettii, Legroi, Nevillii, Lucens, Willisii to name a few.

Crypts could be a good option for you, Cryptocoryne Crispulata is a really tall growing one with long textured leaves that would look good with the Anacharis. Good stem plants would be things like Limnophilla mentioned above and Hygrophila Siamensis 53b, Cardamine Lyrata and Hydrocotyle Leucocephala are all quite easy to grow and once underway they are almost weed like haha.

So the Crypts and swords would be a good option for me? Do they require any special attention? (Like fertilizers?)

I’ll check with my LFS to see if they carry Crypts, because I have never looked into them before.

Root tabs are best for crypts and swords

Yep as mentioned above root tabs are a good idea - if your LFS does not stock them online retailers are always worth looking up. Aquarium Co-Op seems to have a good reputation in the US I believe?

Ok, I’ll look into root tabs. Are Seachem root tabs any good?

Is it a good idea to go to your LFS and just get what plants you like the look of? Or do I need to specifically do research and pick each one out?

Its best to have an idea as otherwise you can come away with plants that either need high lighting and Co2 injection or even house plants that will just rot in the tank.

This is a useful site to get an idea of species.
https://tropica.com/en/plants/search/?mode=search&sew=&dif=Easy&pgr=&ori=&use=

Just make sure it is set to easy and it will display a list of plants that can grow in mid-low lighting, no Co2 and with minimal fertilisers. Adding an all in one liquid fertiliser could be a good idea though.

I use Seachem tabs in my tanks with Cryptocorynes and chain swords and they are thriving. I have Fluval Stratum for substrate because I have shrimp, so there are no other nutrients than the accumulated waste and the tabs.

I’ve heard good things about Seachem tabs, I’ll look into them. :good:

Ambulia and Twisted Vallis are tall plants that looks good along the back.
Hygrophila ruba/ rubra is a medium height plant that can become bushy.
Water Sprite is a floating plant but can also be planted in the substrate where it grows into a lovely like green shrubby plant.

Adding an iron based aquarium plant fertiliser (with trace elements) will usually help plants grow better. Sword plants and cryptocorynes love nutrients in the substrate and can be grown in pots or in the gravel

You can plant water sprite!?

Vallis seem like a really nice plant, I may look into those. My LFS really isn’t that big on live plants, so I may go to Dustins Fishtanks, which is located about 40 minutes from me! (He is a YouTuber, that has a store)

Yes you can plant Water Sprite in the gravel. It does really well and looks nice when grown under water.

If you get Vallis, get narrow Vallis or twisted/ corkscrew Vallis. Do not get giant/ jungle Vallis because it doesn't do well in tanks.
