Plant Id And Advice

The leaves on mine start off green then eventually turn brown.

That's exactly how mine was. It was green for about a week, then turned brown. I took it out thinking it was knackered and it wasn't until then that I realised it was very healthy. The leaves are really shiny and waxy. It's a very nice plant what ever it may be.

Thanks for all the replies. :good:

I bought my becketii crypt from java plants. In the picture they provided tho the plant was green. So of course wen my leaves turned brown I too thought somethin was wrong. So I googled it. I found pics of it exactly how mine looked with brown leaves. Apparently this is a good sign of health with this crypy. Very stunning plant. Mine grows like crazy.

Thats not C Beckettii (almost 100%), the leaves on C Beckttii are fatter and more rounded. The leaves on both of those pics are quite thin. I'll bet 50p thats Wendttii brown

lol 50p? Confident then
I dunno im no plant expert, all i know is i ordered Becketii from Java Plants and thats what i got.
And when i google it i find pics of my plant.
Below is some info and a couple of pics of Becketti i found just by googling. :good:

Lol, 50p... Haha.

Mine doesn't grow upwards like in the pics you have shown. Mine are more laid out if that makes sense.

Itll start to grow upwards the more bushier it gets

From my understanding of crypts they cycle through a meltdown where the leaves turn brown, some leaves will die and should be removed but the crypts should spring back to life, its part of their natural cycle or so I have been told.

Your right but with this species brown is the colour the leaves are suppose to be.
Well new shoots start off green, then they turn like a waxy brown.
My Becketii has been like this for afew months and iv never lost a single leaf.
Its thriving really well

Exactly how mine is. Thanks for everyones help! :)

If you move it too much you may suffer from crypt melt, which is when some leaves will die off, but if you don't move it the leaves shouldn't die off at all. The leaves are spread out because it is out in the open. The closer you plant them the more upright they will grow. The colour and leaf shape depends upon the tank conditions, e.g. flow, lighting etc.

cheers :good:

Thanks. :) I have 3 plants in total so will move them closer together then. Flow is from a Fluval U3 on the spraybar setting, and an additional 600 litre per hour powerhead. Lighting is from 2 T8's which i try and keep on for about 8 hours a day but with a 3 year old that loves looking at the Angels and knows where the switch is, this is very hard to regulate.
