Photographer Of The Year Winner

While I like those photos I was never a fan of underwater pictures, its almost too easy to get a neat shot, more luck in seeing the stuff then anything else.

Brilliant pics but I cant afford a good camera, I cant afford all the lenses like fish eye and all that stuff, i cant afford to go under the sea with a camera and im too scared to be in such a big shoal of fish.. so to me not all the best photographers are ever heard of, the best to me are the ones who sit at there tank for hours on end just for the right time to press that button :)

The eye behind the camera is all that matters.
I have several grand in camera and lens and flashes and lights, yet when I was in vegas for a conference the top photog for maxim was there, and I had a chance to learn a bit from him. Want to know his camera of choice when not in a studio? A disposible camera with a flash that can be manually turned on or off. A 9 dollar camera has shot the cover of maxim. Same with Sport Illistrated, one of the photogs only uses cheap cheap point and shoot camera.

These pictures even put Cian McLiam to shame!

I don't think I'll ever bother trying again.

So not fair
:D

Don't hang up that camera just yet. Take pictures because you love it or at least enjoy it, not because you have to be as good as a professional photographer. If that is your aspiration, instead of feeling defeated try to learn from what you saw. I actually saw this whole series (2005 nature photographers of the year) of photos at the Natural Science Museum in Raleigh, NC. They were all stunning. However, instead of being discouraged I was inspired to learn to see like they do. That is the key. Tell a story with every picture. Amazingly enough I got an honorable mention in the first national digital photography contest I entered. It was one of the photos that told me the story before I shot it. All I had to do was capture the moment. When I try to make up the story it doesn't work as well as when I already know the story and try to capture it.
