I have used a couple products that remove phosphates to help when I had an algae problem. They did not make the problem go away by themselves. When I put my lights on a timer set for on 8-10 hours per day, and reduced by daily feedings from 2 to 1, my algae problem cleared up. I stopped using the phosphate removing filter media, and the algae has not come back. I still have almost a gallon of some sort of phosphate removing gravel, and I never use it. However, that is just my experience, maybe it has more of an affect for other people.
