Hello,

I'm looking to buy a pH test kit. Could anyone recommend me a good one?

Also, I was wondering if test strips are accurate with pH. I know ones for ammonia nitrite and nitrate don't tend to be very good but I am unsure with pH.

Thanks. :)

Most people find that liquid tests are better but I use the strips and they let me know if bad stuff happens.

The API Master kit is usually the answer to any testing question. You can get it online or at virtually any fish store or Petco/PetSmart.

Since the OP is in the UK he'll need to visit his LFS or check online. Not sure I've ever seen the kit at P@H

Agreed, get yourself an API liquid PH test kit. Or if you dont have one already, an API master test. This is almost a must piece of kit for any fish keeper. Very accurate:)

I've also heard a great number of folks get it on ebay for a good price.

Thanks for all the replies!

I do actually have the master test kit by API but ran out or lost the pH so just wanted a separate one. And one that does the whole thing, not just high range.

Trust me, I'm glad I have the master kit. New set up with juvenile shrimp and tiny egg hatched fry.

I take it API is the best brand for testing your water?

I also just read that it only tests ph 6 - 7.6. I think I may need something a bit wider just from the experience I've had with my water.

I had a tetra pH liquid test before that measured 5.0 - 10. I know that's a bit extreme but besides that, is Tetra any good or even accurate?

You could also get the high range pH kit that tests for 7.4-8.8. Sorry, I have no idea about tetra.

The master kit has the high pH test. I was also looking for an individual bottle but found that buying a full api master kit is cheaper overall.

I ended up just getting a tetra again. I'll still use the API master for the usual though. I'm pretty sure pH is a basic thing anyway. :)

I'm using the API Master Test Kit, it does everything you need ! (PH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate.)
