We went to the LFS today and saw some lovely pearlscales... What is the best way to keep these chubby little things?

Are they OK in a large tank or are they better off in a pond?

We have no experience of coldwater fish so don't want to do the wrong thing.

Cheers

Pearlscales are beautiful. I have kept and breed them before and currently have a large one in my 20g fancies tank, they seem hardier than other fancies and tend not to suffer from swim bladder etc. As for were to keep them it depends on your ponds winter temp. but I would keep them in a tank, they are not as robust as other pond fish and tend to lose out competing for food so a species tank or fancies tank is the best place for them. An undergravel filter and small internal filter are best as these fish produce alot of waste. I would do a 25% water change per week to keep them siutably happy. Unfourtunatly real plants don't stand a chance with them so you will have to go for plastics.

Here is a picture of mine, sorry about the quality they do move fast for goldfish.
