Hope thie link's are okay, (original info/pics) - but the guys on Cupranet suggested I pop over here....

I have a 3x2x2 (Feet UK measurements) tank which homes a baby Pacu (8 inches) & Baby Giant Gourami (5-6 inches), long term plan is to `house sit` the gouarmi till he gets to cramped then let him move on... Pacu having moved on already.....

However the Pacu seems to have taken the decision that he's the biggest, so will nip the tail fin of the GG. & generally keep GG in the lower regons of the tank..

All fed high protien floating stick pellets, nearly 4 times a day, little often so not to polute, but the Pacu just seems to go nuts..... and `hovers` 80% in one go...

Any info on Keeping these two would be useful....

Cheers

Stu./

Pacu's are schoaling fish like almost all characids - they'd leave other tankmates alone if you give them some companions - they are very social, especially at younger ages. Any future plans for housing this giant?

The Pacu, was a pleasent suprise - My son took a fancy to him, when he was a weeeee tiddler, was in his 2x1 tank for couple on months, but since moving him - he has grown and grown and grown....... - My local retailer has offered to have him back, as they know that when I bring him in he will be a beauty, I have kept tank busters for ages, but neva either of these two, normally Oscar's or Black Sharks.. The later my preferred, last one was re housed at 10"

I know the Pacu will out grow my tank, just as the GG will, but for the time its an honour in looking after him/them...

Its just that the GG will / should be with us - for quiet a while, as he was purchased as the Tanks main fish, he will have the tank to his own bar, in the tank buster fish size Appart from a Pleco, Rocket Gar & Pim-Pictus that are in there currentlyl....

Links are fine

:) Nice looking fish , both will grow quite large and require large tanks.
As freddy stated Pacu will do best in groups .

Good luck , the shop will take them ? that's good too

 BTW Neither are New World cichlids .

Well I checked the tank this morning... Looks like the Pacu has had a nother harsh go at the Gourami....

Pect Fins & tail fins munched nicely. - This will grow back I know, but I feel that I have to make a choice Soon..... Which one to Stay - I feel the GG will be the more peaceful, & more of a family pet for the young children to look at and talk too...

Comments???

if the lfs has agreed to take the pacu back, do so as stated they are schooling fish and hes giving your GG a go, so it would benefit the GG a bit too if you take the pacu back.

DD

Agreed cheers - Pacu off at the weekend - Earliest time sensible.... - Given time the GG will regain him/herself ??... - In terms of growth rate, though, I should be able to house him for quiet a while shouldnt I///
