Hi I recently set up a new 125l (33 us gallon tank),
I cycled the tank for 4 weeks before adding any fish and added some prime to the water to get rid of chlorine.
i have 2 medium sized plants, a bridge ornament, a large half shell that doubles up as a cave and some driftwood.
i was wondering if i could get an opinion on wether my tank is overstocked.
I have:
1 blue dwarf Gourami
1 male betta
1 female betta
5 black skirt tetras
11 neons
2 rummy noses that shoal with the neons
1 small angelfish
a bala shark
2 pakistani loaches
1 penguin tetra
and
2 male and 4 female guppies
the only fish there that i know will get quite large is the bala shark and i plan on giving him to my best friend with a much larger tank when he gets to big!
all of my fish seem to be gettin along fine ( no ripped fins or injurys)
the reason i ask all of this is because my dad has his heart set on getting a small gold severum that can grow up in the tank as he has heard that they are the least agressive chichlids and that if they grow up with the tetras from a young age they wont see them as food?

Thanks for listening lol!

if your tank took two weeks to cycle then we have a world record, the chances are it is not cycled, have you got a good quality liquid test kit?

you will need to get rid of 2 of the following
dwarf gouramis
male fighter
female fighter male and female should Never!!! be kept together!!!

you will need to get rid of the bala and angel fish.

and no you wont be able to have a severum 1. your tank isnt big enough 2. it would eat most of the stock you have now

sorry I didnt mean 2 weeks on mY ipod touch i meant 4  (have taken my water samples to my local aquatic store where they do it for free and they came back fine)
thanks for your help!!!

Your tank proberbly isnt cycled to be honest, or if it is it certainly isnt mature enough to hold all of those fish.

The bettas need to be removed asap. The male will be nipped to shreds by the neons, angel...actually everything in there will proberbly have a peck at it. Female and male bettas should never ever be kept together
The neons need an established tank.
The bala shark must go gets far too big.
The angelfish will eat the tetras once it gets bigger.

Your tank isnt mature enough to hold this number of fish, i would get rid of the bala and bettas for definate and concider getting rid of the angel.
I would advise against adding the severum to this mix of fish.

The male betta will also likely not get on with the gourami - will see at as another male betta and they will not be happy..

Also the filtration/circulation that a betta likes will not support that number of fish. Tetra's prefer faster flowing waters, Betta's like much calmer.

Overall you have too many fish in there for when it is mature let alone while not. Sorry that won't be what you want to hear but some of those fish need to go and soon.

I used to have a 20 gallon tank and have added my old filter sponges to this tank (does this make a difference to the maturity?)
also the angel, neons, gourami, female betta and the penguin tetra used to live in my 20 gallon so are used to the bacteria on thoes sponges.
I was told by the store that if angels grew up with tetra from when they were small they would be used to them bieng there and so not eat them when it got older (is this true?)
