Out Of Interest - How Big Is Your Tank And What Pump D You Use?

I was just wondering, are the flow rates mentioned, the BOX claim, or a more realistic, true flow.( roughly 50 of BOX claim)?

They are box readings there is no way to tell TRUE flow accuratly for most of us, you can say half the flow with media as a rough guess but thats as much good a choclate kettle lol. Think the threads just to see what people use rather then flow rates :)

The stated flow rates are what you'll get if you use minimal pipework and no media, obviously with media and pipe work you're generally looking at about 50% of the stated flow rate.

29 penguin 150 (male lobster)
55 penguin 200 and penguin 350 (rather overstocked community tank)
55 penguin 350 (bichir+cichlids)

600 ish uk gallons 15000lph pump in sump superfish pump
100 uk gallons 2000lph external filter aps2000 uv
24 uk gallons 500lph pump in filter d&d pump
:good:

no its not. well not always.( Eheim and Aqua one both measure with media and fittings) I am fully aware of how media affects flow cheers. however others clearly are not.

even so i asked which flow rate was mentioned.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to sound patronising, I just answered a question you asked.

What are the make and model for your filters? It's very interesting the different flow rates but it would also be interesting to see what people are actually using :)
If it's not too much bother could those of you who have not stated make / model edit posts to include? Pretty please :)

yeah, incorrectly. its worth making sure, prior to posting, that your comments are right. if someone took your comments as being FACT, they would but up poop creek, paddlless.

in point of fact, most maker state flow with, at least, some media fitted, though only Eheim and Aqua one, seem to have, measured it with all bits fitted. the FX5, for instance is measured with sponge media but no piping. other Fluvals are rated, simply by pump power.

all this is posted, here (TFF), with links or Emails to confirm.

as for answering the question i asked, how does you post do that. your answer was nothing to do with how members are working out their flow rates.

so again, the question is HOW ARE MEMBERS WORKING OUT THEIR FLOW RATES! its so simple to measure.

I mentioned my flow rate based on the Manufacturer's claim. Penguin 200 is rated at a flow of 200 g/h. I don't know if that is with or without media in place. You'd have to ask Marineland if you wanted more information.

(I just got done talking with them, and they are sending me a second Penguin 200 in exchange for the 350 that wouldn't fit, as well as a box of media as well. That's a nice addition, I think. Granted, I don't want to use their regular cartridges very often, because of the carbon, but they will be good to have around in case I need to remove something from the tank. They should arrive in 7-14 business days. I am thinking less though, since it doesn't have far to go to get to my house.)
