So, some of you will know, I sold/rehomed most of my stock, to make way for 5 frontosa's with the plan of making the 125g just for them.

So far, in the space of 4 weeks, Ive lost 3 of the 5, I expect to lose the remaining two shortly, they arent looking good.

Clearly they dont like my water, I assume the ph/hardness isnt to their liking or they were just bad stock, either way, I wont be trying any more frontosa, they arent cheap!

So, I dont know what to stock the 125g with anymore, currently has my large red spot sev, bkgf, 2 large senegal bichirs and added last week (after the fatalities) 4 geophagus surinamensis and 7 giant danios (who are still small). Now I dont know what else to add. Ive done most other SA cichlids and frankly the only one that Ive stuck with is my severum, CA's are too aggressive IME so no more of those, which doesnt leave me with many options. Im not partial to tetra species (hence the danios), dont like Silver dollars, rehomed my bala's, so something dithery is limited too. I miss my rainbows like mad, but to restock to the amount I had, is expensive and sourcing good ones isnt easy either.

If it wasnt for the sev, birchirs and ghost, I would likely give up the hobby as nothing seems to grab my attention anymore, so basically, anything Im missing that would go with the current stock, which to recap is, severum, bichirs, bgkf, geophagus, danios??

Oddball's.........difficult really, what about cichlids like chocolate/festivum..peaceful....

um err maybe what you have is enough, what about getting a small group of hoplo catfish,or reedfish/pictus catfish??would say channa but suppose you dont want to get rid of everything.....

Never seen a chocolate ciclid round these parts nelly, yours in lovely, so if I saw one, Id get one, dont like Festiv's, pictus rehomed them, bored me, hoplos dont like and no, dont want to rehome the ones Ive already got for channa  Maybe I do have enough, but its awfully empty in there :(

hehe its hard with you girl....

um leaf fish, what about some mid sized barbs...odessa barbs / Spanner barbs / rosy barbs /

Five-stripe barbs / Rhombo barbs / Clown barbs / South Indian Flying Barbs / panda barb ... i myself love barbs

I know Im a pain, actually I saw some long finned rosy barbs a while back, at the time I had no space for them, but they were lovely, unfortunatley havent seen any since, but will keep them in mind :good:

jack dempsey????????

i think one would work wouldnt it

jack dempsey

Funny you should mention it, saw a beautiful one in, of all places, Pets at home this morning, in with acaras, silver saums and some african mbuna!! Did think about it, but unsure how well it would do with the geophagus, it would more likely be too aggressive for them, but then Ive never had a JD, so any thoughts on that anyone?

edit, pike cichlids, nah dont think so and the only polypterus round here are the ones I already have.

Reedfish?

Climbing Perch?

(my answer to many stocking queries for bigger tanks - lovely fish and reedfish in a group are very active)

Filament Barbs?

Trying the JD couldn't hurt. They are lovely when they get bigger and i shouldn't think the geos would have a problem. And if they did then well it was worth a try right?

I'd try the JD and start collecting rainbows again, you had an AMAZING collection it was actually one of your tank pics that got me liking rainbows as i was never too fond of them. Boesmanis FTW!

Hmmmm, might be worth trying the JD then, its only small, mind you was kicking the poop outta the rest of the fish it was with

Indigoj, reedfish are good idea, just, again, never see them in any LFS I visit!

Maybe look online?

Wierd isn't it how some fish can be elusive - here I can't find senegal bichir for over 12 months but have seen 3 or 4 LFS with reedfish...
