Ok, so my s/o reeeeeeeeally loves Oscars. We just got a new 44 gal Hex tank. (25 inches tall)
Can I keep oscars in this tank and also, what tank mates can they have?
Would probably get two oscars (or three how ever it's recomended) and would like something else as well. I know Silver Dollars are ok, what else? Coreys? Plecos? are they ok?

I'm on the fence if I want these or some dwarf chiclids, as I realize now that I've limited myself in getting the taller tank.

Unfortunately the tank is too small for even a single oscar. They are large growing, high waste producing fish and would be too cramped in a 44 gallon tank. The tank will be much better suited to some dwarf cichlids.

hmm, ok, guess that answers that.
What size is recomended for Oscars?
I know my Inlaws had some in a tank about the size of ours, plus two SD and something else. Guess they were grossly overstocked!

No I agree, now hearing what they should be in, see I knew no better, that's why I asked. Poor things. Well, they're long gone now. That's what happens when you rely on LFS advice.

Wow, 75 gallon for just one? That's huge. I can't imagine having 1 fish in my 75

Thanks for the reply, but why after the advice the others just gave me, would you think I'd want to add 2 1 foot oscars in a 44 hex tank? Obviously that's not enough room for them. I think it's max 2 feet across. That would be cruel to put fish that size in a tank that I have.

a 75us is reccomended for a single oscar,,,,,sorry but that sounds bad for an oscar
hiya do you know much about oscars i have 2 1ft oscars they are happy in my tank but would like to get rid of them as want to go to cihlids do you know how much they are worth

Its cruel to put a oscar in anything bit a 4ftx2ftx2ft preferably 5ftx2ftx2ft for 2 of them.

It depends on the fish,i attempted to put A kissing gourami which was 9" with the 2 4" oscars i had and the oscars killed him inside 24 hours,a week later i decided to try a full grown convict Cichlid and a firemouth and they killed them to,they also killed my 18" sail fin plec when they got to full size,my mum bought me 2 full grown red blood parrots and they didnt kill them but they fought like crazy.

Best to keep them on there own imo.

yes mate they probally get on fine, because tank sounds very stocked indeed, which in tail means theres no space to own an area.......
sounds cramped,,,,what have you exsactly got in this tank?
hope your filterations good buddy and waterchanges are often :good:

iam only giving out my advise from my exsperience with cichlids and my errors, id prefer to tell people my errors than them have to go through it and i didnt say anything,,

what are the dimentions of the tank? possible for angels?

Oscars are rewarding fish to keep, but unfortunately can't be kept in a tank like that. sounds to me like any fish that gets only about six inches long and swims mostly midlevel would be great. angels would be cool, especially if you had a narrow cluster of plants that extended all the way to the top. i've also seen discus in tanks like that.
