ok I know these guys grow fast! Rusty has grown 1/4" in a week :hyper: , but he is in a 300l tank. Once the tank is cleared of the other tankmates I am moving him temporarily to a 260 tank, but here he is going to be on his own, may put in a spare plec I have or maybe leave in the pictus for a while. This is untill we move in the other 400l tank and move the frontosa into it from their 300l tank as the little ones are now big enough. This 300l will be Rusty's new home, I know once he get full size the 300 will be just for him, BUT next year I will have no choice but to sell off my Koi as the ideas for a pond are out of the window and the 400l tank they are in at the moment will no longer be big enough. Now I could move Rusty into the 400l next year (when next year I just dont know) but what do I put with him, do I sort out tank mates now (I have Ellioti and Rotkeil severums spare  ) or do I bit the bullit and get another oscar as a mate? if I get another 2" oscar would they be ok for 12months in a 300l tank?

As you know I have Boris who is about 5.5" (not including tail) now. He was in a 50g until he was 5" and he has been absolutely fine. I could not have kept him in there for much longer though, and only did it as I knew I was getting my 168g. I'd say a 300L would be fine on his own for 12mths. 300L is too small for two full grown Oscars.

They grow an inch a month, so Rusty is on the right track :good:

Oscars grow quick, in six months you will have a over grown puppy, problem is having two together in small spaces, esp at this time, when they have a change of heart and start to scrap etc...

 six months! hmm not long enough, just one oscar for me then, cheers Nelly
