Hi

What would your recommendation be to an optimum viewing level for an aquarium, e.g stood up eye level middle of the tank, sat down looking up (so stood up your taller than the tank), sat down middle of the tank? I realise most stands are 30'' or so and then the tank height, but as I'm building my own stand I'll be free to choose.

Thanks

I dare say that the standard height was chosen for a reason.

unfortunately that doesn't mean it was a good reason.

I'd have a think about where you will get the most enjoyment out of your tank. will you be sat down? if so, find a height you are comfy looking at. like standard TV height... then factor in external filters, what do you plan on using? how tall will the stand need to be to accommodate the filter?

For me, it would be sat down and eye level around the middle of the tank. A lot goes on in the lower layers of my tank, so any higher and I'd miss it all. So I guess stocking is another factor in your decision, as well as what Chris has said.

I couldn't make my mind up so I've made a model and starting at 110cm, which is the height of my bar, then the tank on top of that, so it's looking a good height for where it will be situated.
