Right, as some of you know I'm now at uni in a rented student house. I've eyed up a 3ft(ish... I need to measure) gap in the living room.
If I can find a 3ft tank going cheap on ebay with a stand I'm debating buying it and stocking it with a pair of leopard frog plecs (or similar).

There are a few plus points to this idea, it means that when it gets to summer I can transfer all fish into the 3fter and move the 60l and 35l home a week early so they're ready for the fish the week after.

Downside is that I wouldn't be moving the 3fter, this would be staying at the house over summer. Which woul mean that mid june - early sep the plecs would have to live in the 60l... sooo
What do we think? Is it do-able?
Personally it seems viable as they'll only be spending around 2 1/2 months in the 60l but having never kept them and hearing they're relatively territorial I wasn't sure.

Also if anyone has any other opinions of plecs to consider then I'm listening :) However I'm not at all interested in bristles, they just aren't eye catching enough for me.

How about Clown Peckoltias, if Leopard Frogs are not advised? My LFS (Aquajardin) has a tank of these lovely guys that look like my Hypoptopoma, except with stripey colouring, reaching just a little bigger according to their label (~8cm).

A trio of Panda Garras could work too, providing you have a decent turnover of water (they like current).

Hmm, not sure I like the look of the garras, but the clown peckolita is something I've looked at before. I would really like to get something around a 3fter for downstairs (if I do get a tank that is), but as I said the limitations come for the 2 1/2 months over summer where whatever is living in it will be confined to my 60l with the 7 sterbai.

A pair of nice looking plecs would be ideal as I was half debating just getting a 36" x 12" x 12" clearseal and putting everything else together with the odd n bobs I have lieing around the house. Only problem with that scenario is the lack of a stand.

Point being, I don't mind at all if I have a massive stocking capacity, but only spend it on 2 small plecs. Although there wont be any midwater movement I'm totally happy to just give them the run of the tank. Plus it'd be nice to be able to use it as a grow on tank if any of my currect fish breed. Just pop the fry in there once they're old enough and grow them out. Perfect :)

Plus just to add, alot of people seem happy keeping bristles in 60l tanks long term. Something I'm always a bit surprised by as I personally wouldn't feel comfortable housing any 15cm fish in a 60cm long tank full stop. However something that maxes at at around 4"... can't see a real problem with that in 60l temporarily. But like I said it really is a case of temperament, not sure if they'd behave in that sort of space.

A pair would be a nice choice. How much are those things now?

Zebra's would be nice also or maybe King Tiger's?

James

Ermm, L134's are around £35 I think. The clowns Nobody of the goat mentioned are a bit cheaper at around £20 I think.

Zebs are way out of my price band, and I think king tigers would be a bit cramped even short term in my 60l.

I would need to double check, but I could have sworn that Aquajardin is selling ~5cm SL Clown Peckoltias for something like £8 each, but it could be my bad memory playing tricks on me ;)

Yupp, Zebra's are so expensive. Great fish though :good:
Bulldog Pleco's are nice, Don't know if they are your thing though. My bro has one in his Tanganyika setup. I think they max out around 5 inches.

James.

The L015 - Candy Striped Plec - Peckoltia vittata is £19.95 @ Wildwoods
The L134 - Leopard Frog Plec - Peckoltia compta is £40 @ Wildwoods

Both are rather sweet to look at, I've also been browsing some sites and have found somewhere that has the L316, L400 and L340 in stock. Just waiting on prices. I'm hoping price wont be an obstacle, and atm I don't even have a tank for them so this is all just theory, but IF I end up with a tank it wont hurt to have the stock planned.

I don't plan to buy online if possible, I'd rather pick them up so I can see them before buying. Wharf aquatics seems well stocked by the sounds of it, still haven't been yet though. lol.
