Ooops Big Mistake Or Little One?

Hi

I just got my new Red Honey. Was floating her in her bag in the tank, adding some water to her bag every 5 mins or so. Just heard a noise and looked round to see the bag had floated off, sunk into the water and she'd swam out about 20 mins before I intended her to! I think she'd been in there long enough for the temp to match but obv I'm worried about 2 things.

1: Do you think the PH will shock her? I'd added water to her bag twice before it happened. and the LFS is only 2 miles down the road so hopefully their PH shouldn't be a lot different.

2: Should I be worried about getting LFS tank water in my tank? I'm worried about bacteria that my current fish aren't used to.


I knew I should have used a peg!

It is best to avoid LFS water really... but I don't know whether you can do anything precautionary

She'll probably be ok especially considering the LFS is just down the road Any pics?

Yeah gonna try and get some later. Usually I'd add some General Tonic as one of the things it protects against is new bacteria but I only dosed the anti bacterial med second dose on Wednesday so best not to.

I know, I like to think of myself as "special"

have you added a new fish into your tank that is half way through a med treatment....? if so not really a wise move....

Oh, no it isn't. It was precautionary really. One died a few weeks ago with no obvious sypmtoms and the only even possible explanation I could see was some sort of internal bacteria. None of my fish show any signs of illness or anything.

pH shock shouldn't be an issue if the LFS is just that - local! They will have the same water supply as you and therefore similar water params.

Personally I'm not too keen on getting LFS water in my tank - keep an eye, everything will probably be fine. You could do a large water change if you want to be really safe.

And yeh, next time use a peg Or a bucket and drip acclimate...removes risk of bags accidentally floating off altogether, although it does add the extra dimension of small children/pets/not concentrating adults accidentally knocking the bucket over! Swings and roundabouts I guess...

My male is chasing her . She's displaying exactly the same behaviour as my other female did. I know this is what it is coz she was absolutely fine when I put her in and for about the first hour.

This is so typical of my to have the only male Honey G in the world that harasses the female non stop!

This is not good, if it goes the same way as before then he'll stress her to death. and she's already had the added stress of being moved today.

I guess getting another female is an option. She was the only one in the shop though which is why I only got one . Due to work and general LFS opening hours I can't sort it till next weekend earliest.

on a serious note turn the tank lights out and let your fish calm down for the night probably be chilled in the morning , and hows your hang over lol

Ha alright thanks. I drank on yesterday's hangover so it's my own fault really.

I don't even get why he's chasing her. It's not like they're livebearers, he's not gonna get anything from it. He hasn't even built a bubble nest. Mind you, he hadn't with my other female either and he still chased her non stop. I think he may just be a git.

I had a dawrf gourami like that - harrassed two females to death so I bought another two males and he chilled right out. I came to the conclusion that he was gay!

I haven't seen her today yet (left for work too early) but I think I need to get another female ASAP. Thinking if I get another 2 females then he'll have 3 of them to bug so hopefully it'll be spread out enough.

Actually considering leaving work early tomorrow for it.

What may help is to change the decor around in your tank, so both have to establish new territories. And yes, get yourself another female as soon as possible. Dwarfs are known to be territorial towards their own kind.
