I recently got my shoal of 10 and all is going well atm. I’m keeping them in an established/fully cycled QT with a water temperature of 77-78, pH 7.8-8.0, GH and KH of 3-5. I did a 50 minute acclimation using turkey basters. Float bags for 15 min., open bags and put a drop of Prime or Stressguard, with turkey baster A ….remove about half of bag water, slowly add tank water in 2oz increments w second baster B every 5 minutes to bags attached to tank top until about same size as from box, then remove about half with baster A and repeat process w baster B. Gently net out fish with shrimp net into tank and discard bag water.

I'm a brutalist, from working in the rare fish business. I dump new arrivals through a net, so their water can go into plant pots, and dump the fish straight in. After shipping, the bag water is rich in ammonia, and I want them out of it. My tapwater is soft and my tanks slightly acidic.

I haven't drip acclimated in many years, and have kept some very rare tetras with no issues.

I've opened shipped bags where the ammonia almost burned my eyebrows off, and the fish were rolling. A few minutes in clean, no chlorine water and they'd be fine.

Yea i'm in the camp of leave the bag sealed - let it temperature accliminate - cut it open - pour the fishes into a net and the water into a pail and dump the fishes in their new home. The faster you get them out of the bag once you open it the better.

Only exception is most catfishes i'll pour the water out of the bag (into the pail) with the fishe(s) in the bag and then scoop them out - since a lot of catfishes have barbs that will catch on nets.

That’s what makes this hobby great. We each do what works for us.

I will add that what I described above is not the drip method and all ammonia is neutralized the moment I cut open the bags and dose Prime or StressGuard.
