One Of My Fish Has Had Babys ? But There Ment To Be Males

hi people

i recently bought 3 blood mollies from my lfs and the person selling them to me said they were all males, i intoduced them to my tank and they were fine, i got home from work and i noticed 3 babys in the tank and i am confused ? i wanted males because i didnt want babies now i dont no what to do ??

well how long ago did you buy them because the best thing to do is find the one that is a female and return it back to the lfs. of-course you can explain why. if that isnt an option an you really dont want fry's then i suggest you take them out because mollies are live bearers and they will continue to have babies.....trust me i know ive had mollies forever lol i made the same mistake of getting 2 female and 2 male mollies

well here is the deal. the females are going to have more of a rounded belly. and you can certainly tell the difference when she pregnant they get pretty BIG lol and the males are going to have a more slender body i dont believe they can spawn with other mollies just the same kind but im not 100% sure so i dont wana tell you the wrong info.

and the best way to care for the fry is to put them in a separate bowl or if u have a container made for fry because the mollies and other fish will eat them.

Mollies can only mate succesfully with other mollies -any colour or type of molly will mate with any other.Once a female has mated she will have several sets of fry without any further contact with males. SO if you don't want any more fry EITHER leave babies in the tank where most will be eaten by adult mollies (survival of the fittest)OR take the female back to lfs and swap for a male
Easy to tell livebearers sexes apart. Look closely at the bottom fin nearest the tail - females have a round fin and males a pointed one, sort of like a penis, called a gonopodium. So the fish with a rounded fin different to the others is the girl

It is easy to tell a male from a female in the common livebearers, the group that includes mollies. You judge them by the shape of their anal fin, the one right next to where they eliminate their waste. In a male the fin is a long thin thing that the male uses as a sex organ, it is called a gonopodium. This is a related species where the difference is obvious.
Male

In a female the anal fin would be described as triangular or maybe fan shaped. This is a female of the same species.

I don't have any pictures of a male molly but this is a female showing the same fin shape as that other species female.
