On Ianho's Advice

I'm starting to topic to ask how many fish I can have. I'm far from getting them yet though, I still have equipment and plants to buy a tank to cycle but, these are my thoughts for my 60x30x38cm, 60 litre tank.

4x Platys
3 x Male Guppys
5 x Harlequins.

What do we think?

i'm no expert on stocking, but that looks ok to me. You'd probably get away with some Cory bottom feeding fish as well.

Oh yay, that's what I wanted to do but was worried it would be too much!

Some pygmy corydoras for the bottom would be fine, minimum of 6 as they like to be in groups.

Just make sure you do only get male guppies and male platies, or you will soon be overrun with fry.

I was just looking at the Pygmys, they're quite nice. Do I really have room for 6?

Ha ha yeah, that's one of the reasons Im only getting male guppys (besides them being prettier). When I was about 13 I had a tank,knew nothing about anything to do with breeding or water conditions and they STILL bred so I know how easily they do. Are Plattys the same then?

Yep platies are the same, stick with males.

Yes IMO you have room for 6 pygmy corydoras.

The only thing I should add, is make sure the tank is around 6 months mature (after cycling has finished) before adding the pygmy's, they do need mature stable tanks to thrive, they dont seem to do well in newly set up aquariums. So add the other fish 1st and when all is going well and settled down, then add the corydoras :good:

Ok thanks, that'll be fine. Just a quick question though. If I can have 6 Pygmys, could I have 6 Green Neons instead? Or is the reason I can have Pygmys because they're bottom dwellers?
