hi guys as you may be aware i am going through the fishless cycle.
i am in day 3 and switched on my lights and my water looks a little misty all around the tank and the surface looks oily i have seen people say about this on the forum and they have been advised to pull a pieace of newspaper across the top to remove the oil but i am a little concered about the water looking misty.
Any ideas?
Liam

The cloudy water is the start of the nitrogen cycle and is a good sign. It will clear soon enough.

Well done! :)

you learn something new everyday!
Thanks,
As for the oily surface shall i run newspaper across the top?

Yep, works a treat mate. It is sometimes from the substrate, bogwood and hardscape. Some foods can cause it, but in your case i guess this isn't the cause as you have no fish.

Do it 2 or 3 times with 3 pieces of paper and it will be clear.

+1 For this

If it doesnt clear, it could be grime, drt etc from your substrate too as minnnt has stated, had this before myself, all i did was increase movement over the water's surface and it soon cleared :good:
