Ocean Climate Fix Remains Afloat

Im just wondering at what point do people associate certain whales and fish as plankton eaters, and decide to keep them at lower numbers to prevent plankton being eaten etc.

Cull the fish to save our plankton.??

its a fantastic idea, we are debating the use of 'CO2 Scrubbers' on another forum i go on and this is like a giant natural version :good:

this did make me laugh though
The Lohafex study had been suspended by the German government after environmental groups protested that it violates the terms of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.

They fear that adding iron to oceans may damage ecosystems.

what do they think most ocean going boats are made of, cheese?

See your point :)

i read about this, alga bloom, some months ago. i had not realised we had started messing with it. my god, have the human race no sense?
it looks like our planet is starting to try and correct the damage we, may well, have caused. and what do we do? we start messing with it, without fully understanding the consequences. lets concentrate on reducing our CO2 output, and let nature, as it seems to be doing, do its bit to remove the crap we already put there.

thats assuming CO2 is the problem...

CO2 is a convienient measurable and therefore taxable gas, whether it causes global warming is another matter (in fact it can be proven through the geological lifespan of the planet atmospheric CO2 level increases follow an increase in temperature, they do not drive them) im not saying that we do not have an effect on the planet only that CO2 production should not be our only focus, its simply been jumped on as an easy answer.

anyway back on topic, as fishkepers we should all know that algae and plankton are at the bottom of the aquatic food chain, surely stimulating their growth should help in time to restore our oceans rapidly depleting fish stocks...

as for my original point i think the diesel and zinc based paint from the boats is slightly more damaging, just look how much sea life lives on shipwrecks, if it was damaging nothing would live there. in fact shipwrecks create ecosystems

i agree. but the thread is about algae that absorb CO2 and lock away carbon, and their, apparent, increase. seems logical to talk of CO2, when that was the subject!
