Massive Carp caught

[Jennet47 105]

On BBC website (as usual for me) from lake in Hungary. Ash Hegarty, from Blackburn, caught a 52kg (114lb 10oz) common carp and said landing the fish was "indescribable".

Blackburn angler's 52kg carp catch hailed as world record

Ash Hegarty says his late dad would be "proud" of his huge catch.

One of my local chain stores could have sold him that fish as ideal for a 5 gallon tank!

The best part of this story is:

Yes, like standard catch-and-release sport fishing practices at private fisheries like Hungary's Euro Aqua Lake, the giant carp was safely returned to the water after being weighed and photographed. [1, 2]

Some monsters should not go back... i.e. if its invasive.

I have a British friend who loves fishing. He and his fellow anglers catch the same individual carp over and over again, to the point where all the carp in the lake seem to have names and to be known to the sports fishermen. I imagine conversations like:
"Hey Pete. Have you caught George lately?"
"Why no, but I've seen his friend Oswald six times this month."

This is completely bizarre to me, but there are dozens of lakes around here with very diverse fish species.

My Dad fished for most of his life and put most of what he caught back. He did keep a few occasionally and pass them to me to gut and clean, as my Mum would not touch them.
