Hi
have recently cleaned out my rio 125, and was planning on setting up a small breeding programme with Neolamprologus Pulcher (Daffodil). However this will be my first Cichlid tank and have a few questions.

First of all i hear these fish are relatively easy to breed, but im am not really sure where to start, i have done a lot of research, and i know my water is perfect for them, i live in north london with a PH >8 and hard water. Should i buy 6 or so juveniles and grow them out, or buy adults? Am i right in thinking when a pair forms i should remove the rest and leave these two to live in harmony for the rest of their lives? Additionally i can not find anywhere to buy them, well at least not at large prices, £9 for drab looking ones at various shops or £19 each for the wild caught veriaty.

I was going to breed Leleupi but simply cannot find nice ones anywhere.

I would be Hugely grateful if a few of you could point me in the right direction.

Additionally, i was hoping to set up a Ps. demasoni species tank, or demasoni and Ps. Red Zebras, in a 50 gal, i have researched loads on the demasoni and will not get them for a while but i am keeping my eyes open for them as they also seem relatively hard to come by at good prices.

If anyone can tell me of a dealer located in or around london or ones that deliver,
of any of the fish mentioned, esp daffodil, demasoni and leleupi i would be hugely greatful

I hope to get the tank up and running at half term and will post pictures.

sorry for the essay

Thanks in advanced

lol don't give up heart.....

as you see most posts are about Malawi fish rather than Tangs, so be patient and you may just get an answer... :D

I know a little about the daff's

yep buy some, let them pair off and spawn, then keep the pair and the fry, the parents will spawn again and the first frt will PROTECT the second from anyother tank mates...

a daff colony in the middle of a tank id not unheard of for certain malawi keepers who are not aware

Regarding the others, i would personally not have a tank with demasoni and red zebras together as both species can be very agreesive, they will also be disproportionat in size - demo's 3" max, Red zebras 6" you would need a large tank for that project, also you would need at least 12-15 demo's to ensure any hostility is 'spread out'

I hope this helps a little, maybe know i've posted someone else out there will also offer a little help....

I do not think its personal mate, but as you can see 99.9% of all posts are MAlawi rather than tang or Vic based questions.

God Luck

Dru.

Have you thought about Neolamprologus Helianthus? I can't say enough good things about them :good: .

But if you're set on Neolamprologus Pulcher "Daffodil" I'd get close to wild but not F0. Since wild caught I've been told are harder to breed  (but the cost is enough to say "no"). I'd buy juvis (6+) and watch them grow (which I did). Since they're in the 125 gallon with nearly 200 pounds of calcium base rock I'll not be fishing for them  . The ones I got pretty much looked like Neolamprologus Brichardi but now they got a bit of Yellow on their fins and their tails look a little different. I kind a think the adult Brichardi looks better.

oh thanks guys, i will look at these other fish recommended. The problem is i dont know how to get hold of F1 or F2's, if only we had auctions like the Americans seem to...

Cheers for the help guys, i will set up the breeding tank as soon as i get the fish, i am looking for some extra nice ones if possible :D

Oh and if anyone knows how i can find such daffodils, ie a dealer or sumin? please let me know

Thanks

Jack

Not sure where you're based but Oasis in Salford, Manchester regularly has daffodils in stock.
