Noisy 205

I cleaned my filter yesterday and now i can't shut it up!!! I think there is air in it somewhere but not sure how to get it out. I have primed it, rocked it and shuck it and nothing seems to be working. It will be fine then all of a sudden it will start chattering. It's obviously the propeller making the noise, but how do i cure it?

Thinking of taking it to bits and making sure the seal is in place cirrectly and that all connections are tight etc. I reckon it is air because i can hear it in the canister dispersing etc. When i am priming the filter there is no air bubles coming from the outlet in the tank.

I thought i had cracked it last night and it has been silent all through the night, then about 10 o clock it has started to do it again.

Hi i would take it apart and clean the impeller and make sure it is seated right. Also turning it on and off a few times seems to help.

Thanks. It's cleaning it that has done this in the first place. I should know better really. It is fine for 10 or 15 minutes then it starts with the chattering. Really beginning to get annoyed with it now.

Iv had this with my 305.
I took the impeller out and the plastic propeller part had come loose on the impeller. I just clipped it back on.
That sorted the problem for me

I've had it to bits in every which way. Seems quiet for the time being but I know it will only be a matter of time. Think I might add my fluval 4+ tomorrow just encased this one packs up. Then I need to source a new external. The joys of fish keeping!!

This might sound stupidly obvious but have you checked it's not media rattling around ?

LOL!! I might try it, i'll try anything! I don't think it's that, but who knows. Still doing it, but intermitantly now. Got the 4+ in there now so it's being mega filtered now. lol.

Is the bushing in the impeller cover missing or broken? If it is, the impeller will rattle.

If you can't get it fixed, remember that they come with a 3 year warranty and fluval customer service are excellent in my opinion.

I have a 2 and a half year old 205, it wasn't sealing correctly, even with a new seal. Emailed them on friday, and today, they replied saying they are going to post out some new clamps as they think my ones have stretched FREE OF CHARGE! :good:

What do you mean bushing Erik? As far as I am aware everything is there that was before I cleaned it.

Thanks Brian. I am thinking of emailing them myself to see if they can offer any advice. I am unsure if I have still got the receipt though.

Just a quick update. Fluval replied to my email with advice basically mirroring what i had already done.

Touch wood (obviously this will jinx it!!) the filter has been as quiet as a mouse for 2 days now. I added the 4+ filter as a back up incase the otherone packed up and i didn't realise. The water is absolutely crystal clear. I have never seen it this clear before! Need to move it though as i just plonked it in because i was fed up with it. Hoping to do a bit of a rearrangement in the tank and hopefully try and hide the 4+ as it is rather on the large size.

In the impeller cover there is a rubber or plastic bushing that slips on top of the impeller when the cover is installed.

It should be somewhat tight to keep the top of the impeller from wobbling which will cause it to rattle.
