Nitrates Getting On My Pip

Can someone tell me what my options are please.

My tank currently have 40ppm in nitrates the catch i have is my tap water have 40ppm nitrates so i can never get it lower than that. What are my options i know 40ppm is nothing to really worry about but it would be nice to get it lower.

I have a planted tank thinking it would help get it down a little but it just is not budging from 40ppm I use a API master test kit to get this reading

Having a quick read on it now it also says it remove ammonia and nitrite so do you know if it will affect my cycled filter at all or cause it to crash ?

Did see a post about them Do they really make that much difference ? My main problem though is finding the damm things i have 5 LFS were i live and not one off them sell them on e-bay i refuse to pay the prices they want And only other place i found that sell them the P&P ya would think they are sending a house not moss balls lol

I was surprised at the difference in my big tank after the addition of 3 moss balls - they really do make a difference for me!

I can get you some moss balls for £2 each and then you just have to pay P&P if you like. May be a few weeks 'til we place an order with the wholesaler but it'll be no massive trouble to get in some moss balls

ETA: and the P&P is probably high because they have to be sent in a body of water, like fish, they can't just go in a humid bag with some wet towelling

Hence why I said LAST stage of filtration, so the bacteria still get the ammonia and nitrite, anything left over then gets absorbed by the purigen.
People with planted tanks do this all the time, as it prevents nuisance ammonia from causing algae blooms.

Edit: regards to the moss balls, they may make a slight difference, but not 40ppm worth, perhaps 1-3..
they are very slow growing and as such, don't use too many nutrients up. That being said, it's better than nothing.
