and yeah me too once i get my co2 id be interested to find out how its done. cant beat saving money :)

So which one did you go for? or have you not ordered yet?

I think it was you who asked me to let you know what I think of this unit I purchased from Germany on eBay. Well quite simply it's BRILLIANT :good: Highly recommended indeed.

The quality of the items are superb and it is so worth the money. My only thing against it (and it isn't much) is I'm not too sure about the reactor. I can see why it is a more efficient diffusor than the standard one, it's basically getting the CO2 into the water composition before the bubbles get to the top and diffuse in the air (that's my understanding anyway). The only thing is, is that it's not as good looking as the glass diffusors.

I sent an email to the company where I bought the unit from asking if it was possible to just use a normal diffusor because as I understand it you can use either. It's just that if you use the reactor diffusor that comes with it you need to use a separate pump.

Anyway, my final comments on this is 9/10 THUMBS UP! :good:

Martin

I also want to ask Andy how he makes his d4KH solution, that will save a bit of money too £7 a bottle plus P&P.

Martin

Have a look here ........... click

Hiya Mister Rob,

That link seems dead. Well it seems to be pointing to your local hard drive

Can you try again please.

Thank you

Martin

aye it was me i was waiting for you to post up your experiances before commiting to a purchase, im probably going to get the one with the passive diffuser, i have to wait till i get paid though so i wont be able to buy it for the next couple weeks in the time being im going to run diy co2 and hope that works for me

Bare with me. I'm very drunk after getting knocked out of the K/O by a secon divison team (we are premier, I am the captain so is all my fault of course. lol)

I will explain in detail tomorrow when I don't have to use the backspace delete buttin every 2 secs,

Andy

And when I take the black bin liners off my tank. hic. hic.

what are you on about football darts what?
why are there bin liners on your tank?!
got any ideas on why theres no bubbles coming from my diy co2?

cracked it, dead yeast, can i just add live yeast or will i have to empty and refil?

By the looks of the Basic Guide in this forum it looks like things have to be kept clean, I'd advise refill. I read through it and it looks like a cheap method (well not much cheaper than mine now) but looks time consuming, not very accurate and messy

I checked out the price of the cylinders for the unit I have (and what you will have soon) and you can buy 3 cylinders for just under £30 :hyper: By the looks of things, it looks like one will last a looooong time in my tank :)

I've started by having just around 17 bpm, when my checker arrives from HK (if it does aagghh) I will adjust it accordingly. Hopefully get it today or tomorrow then I'll up it to about 25 bpm - who knows

I had to laugh at Andy's last post  you crazy drunk flishhkeepa

Answering questions again lol

Yes he did copy the pinned article on EI from that site, because that site is his if you notice it is titled James Planted Tank. If you search a little deeper it is copied from a Tom Barr Article.

I make (not 100% accurate but close enough) my 4dKH with 6g Bicarbonate Soda disolved into 5 litres of de-ioniswed water. This gives you a 40dKH solution. Then I mix 10ml of this 40dKH solution with 90ml of fresh distilled water and it becomes 4dKH

I wouldn't bother waiting for the Germans to come back about the diffusor. The answer is Yes. Glass/ceramic diffusor will work with pressurised. Make sure you buy 1 for the size of tank you have.

I am on about Pool
There are bin liners on my tank because it is having a 5 day blackout due to an algae outbreak
Do you change your DIY weekly? Are you putting the right amount of mix in? What is your mix etc.

I am a little lost at the cylinders comment!! I thought the setup you have bought is a refillable cannister type. If so the regulator will not work with disposable cannisters without an adaptor. The blue cannister with the cage on top is th type you go to a welder supplier or a fire extinguisher refiller and get filled up. If you have trouble getting the cannister refilled then you can get an adaptor from AE and buy the disposables.

Any questions I missed?

I see now, I will see if I can get them refilled but I will need another one for spare for when this one runs out. I know this is a wild question, but on average (say 2 bps) how long would one of these cylinders last?

Do you think it is better to just get the throwaway bottles or are the refillable ones better (apart from just the obvious friendly to the environment)?

I've just received my order from AE with the pH Low solution and d4KH but I'm still waiting for my checker from HK. I also have the Wide range pH tester kit, is there a test that I can do that will give me an indication on how my CO2 is coming along with the kits I have already without the drop checker?

I'd just like to see if I can turn up the bpm as it is at around 17 at the moment. Didn't want to gas the poor things.

Thanks

Martin

Just tested it with the Low pH kit and it was very blue so I've upped the bpm to around 40, I'll check it again tonight before lights out.

my mix is, 2 mugs of sugar lots of water half a teaspoon of yeast (wine variety)
i will be changing it weekly, on the rest day in my EI cycle this is the first time ive tried co2 and its only realy to tide me over till i can afford pressurised

no idea how long they last. My 600g has been on the go for over a month now, and the previous ones had mishaps. lol

No those items are just for the drop checker.
To give you a rough idea you could test the tank water Ph and then compare it to fresh tap water Ph. This will be a very rough idea but don't take it as accurate.

Also there is the 24 hour test which is 2 test tubes. check ones Ph today and 1 24 hours later.

For both methods you want the difference in Ph to be close to 1 but this is not highly accurate.

You should be OK at 1 bubble per second. If you have the whole day free then turn it up to 1bps and keep checking the fish out.

Andy

What symptoms would I get from the fish, would they start coming to the top a lot etc.. I have it just under 1 bps (44 bpm). I will check the ph as I know from the tap it is 8.

Cheers

Martin

Behaviour may vary, but Amano shrimp will be jumping out all over the place and fish will generally become lethargic and act drunk. Don`t ask me how I know.

Dave.

In a cruel way that sounds funny  But I obviously want to avoid that so I will keep my eye on them closely. I think that because it's a reactive diffusor you don't need so many bps/m.

Thanks

Martin :good:
PS I've got a Bamboo shrimp and he's only just come out of his shell (literally, we fished it out the other day )
