As some of you know i am new to keeping tropicals (not new to fish keeping)

Went to LFS today and got 7 female guppys and 3 males for £20 i'm wondering wether this is a good deal as i have never purchased tropical fish before and would like to know if thats the normal sort of price
took some pictures so you can see what i got pictures

i think its a lot to have paid, but thats besides the point,if youre happy with them, then its a great deal :) and they are very pretty

E 20 is about 40 US dolalrs right? If so, you got ripped off. Males here are 3 dolalrs. so thats 9 dollars, adn its a dolalr for a female. So 9 and 7 make 16 dollars.

It is $40 near enough but our inflation is higher, you cant compare what you spend on stuff to what english do because it is a completley different way of living.

Wow, That is very overpriced for what are considered feederfish. Most shops these go for less then £1 each...

Where im from Guppys are £1.50 each and the fry are free.

it totally depends on the quality of the fish IMHO

Yeah you can buy mass farmed guppies around here for a few pence each fish, they're not half as pretty and will most likely keel over within a few weeks as they're so inbred and weak.

Or you can go to a decent breeder or a shop which gets good quality stock, spend a few pounds on each one and get much higher quality fish which will be much stronger and healthier.

Quality is worth paying for!

when i was at the LFS the orange male guppy and the yellow male guppy were listed as guarenteed pure strain and were £5 each or 2 for £9
what does pure mean ?

the cobra male was just listed as £1.50 it said no guarentees on purity

the 7 girls were all pure aswell but were a lot cheaper than the boys

i still cant work out how he made it £20 i made it more but i did spend £70 and order lots of blue tiger shrimps and CRS while i was there so i could have confused him

i only got them cos the kids picked the colours :)

sounds like you did what i said in my post then, instead of just getting cheap-o mass produced guppies that are weak as anything you've got one which come from a proper breeder not a fish farm in korea or wherever.

Worth the extra money IMHO.
