New Tanks!

As I thought, the crock offered a bit of "you" to the tank. I still say that it was a nice touch. It adds something a little different and makes the tank really "yours", as opposed to most tanks which could belong to anyone. I think you should really think about it. The fish will act naturally around it, as if it were a rock, etc. Maybe adding a touch of moss to it would soften its appearance a bit, but I really do like it.

Not sure about the 30G. Too much rock? Need wood? Can't put a finger to it.

Actually I like that "crock" in the 55G. Maybe not so obvious as to have it face the front etc. Maybe use it to form a small cave for corys?

The 10G looks random yet it works quite well. Is that red piece wood or rock?

I'm on the fence with the 30g as well. I'm looking for a piece of driftwood for it and I'm sure that will help. Also, the lighting is a bit too cold so I might switch to a different tube.

Yes, I'd thought about trying to make the crock into some sort of cave for the cories I plan to get. I'll work on a plan.

The red piece in the 10g is lava rock, and it's positioned as a landing for the flow from the filter so it's not so loud. Plus, the guppies love going through the openings in it.

I'm trying to decide today whether to put my usual black backdrop on the back, or leave it alone so they'll get plenty of light during the day. It would never get direct sunlight, but the guppies sure seemed to enjoy all that light this morning! Any thoughts?

Haven't you watched "Man vs. Wild" or "Survivorman"? The evidence of humans (aka trash) is everywhere on earth now, even in the most remote (seemingly) of places. So to have a true "natural" habitat set-up in your tank, you need to add some sort of evidence of humans to make it more "realistic". If you have a tank without a single sign of humans, then you really aren't portraying nature any more. You are portraying the past. You must be an anachronism, Harlequins! Get with the times.



See that's why I don't hide my heater that well - it adds a little realism. Embrace it Harlequins. Shaking your fist at the wind won't make it change direction.




I'm just kidding Spouse! I really like that particular feature in that tank. I couldn't make out what was on the coffee mug, but I can only assume that it is something of significance to you.

Just my opinion I just thought it took away the fantastic job of the scape around it,has ones eye was drawn to it...

I live where its waterways and canals,so i could embrace realism... but i don't think i could fit a shopping trolley in my tank just yet...

Yeh that is so true, that's why you can get ships and submarines for decoration. I might just find a mini shopping trolley and stick that in my tank, our lakes are full of them!! Lol.

Did I mention that my roommate in college was a Renaissance man? Seriously, he would dress up and fence - the works... He is the real anachronism. In fact, his username was Anachronist.




Spouse, I think the crock in the front adds character to the tank and with a bit of moss on it, it would really blend in much more than right now. I really like the tanks a lot.
