One thing I DON'T like:

Pleco + white sand = poop monster evidence!

The sand is exactly the same type of stuff that's on the Gulf Coast of Florida. So beautiful!

The only thing that looks a bit out of place is the white ceramic in your 55 gals,but apart from that they do look awesome

Thanks. Yeah, I debated with that piece of crock. It came from my back yard and was manufactured in this tiny little town around the turn of the 19th Century. It wouldn't be unheard of to find a piece like that lying around in a nearby lake. But I think you're right. I'll pull it out.

Thinking of transferring hubby's firemouths to this tank later tonight ...

Haven't you watched "Man vs. Wild" or "Survivorman"? The evidence of humans (aka trash) is everywhere on earth now, even in the most remote (seemingly) of places. So to have a true "natural" habitat set-up in your tank, you need to add some sort of evidence of humans to make it more "realistic". If you have a tank without a single sign of humans, then you really aren't portraying nature any more. You are portraying the past. You must be an anachronism, Harlequins! Get with the times.



See that's why I don't hide my heater that well - it adds a little realism. Embrace it Harlequins. Shaking your fist at the wind won't make it change direction.




I'm just kidding Spouse! I really like that particular feature in that tank. I couldn't make out what was on the coffee mug, but I can only assume that it is something of significance to you.

I actually prefer the lack of human intervention look, so I will remove the crock. And btw, it's a crock that once held locally made whiskey, and reads "Ely, Minn." on the bottom, the town where I live.

This tank will be a work in progress for sure! I'm waiting on some java moss to put on the wood, and I might be moving the pair of firemouths over tonight. My tanks are always in flux!
