Actually glofish are genetically modified zebra danios. They are very adaptable as to water requirements so they should be fine in your 8.0 water. My own water runs at 7.8 from the tap and I simply avoid the South American soft water fish. Any other fish does fine for me.
"The ph dropped from 8, to 7.8. I should keep an eye on this right? A stable PH is important, correct?"
Not entirely correct. The pH of your water should not be all over the map but a small change, say from 8.0 to 7.5, is no problem at all. In a natural setting, the simple variation that happens over the course of a day when plants remove CO2 during the day and release it at night will move the pH of their water that much. The pH itself is really seldom an issue except for things like fish egg viability. If you are breeding egg layers, you had better pay attention to the recommended pH for the eggs. The adult fish are far more tolerant of a different pH than the eggs are.
