The ammonia they produce will be very very minimal, I doubt it'll actually be registerable to be honest. But it should give a couple of ammonia bacs something to eat for a few days lol... I wouldn't hold your breath for a shorter cycle though.

I was just curious as to whether it would initially start the cycling for me, but if it wont be registrable then I wont hold my breath and have to suck out the long cycling process

Thank you Keith I will read that article, you have all been very helpful! I learning so much, I never realised just how curiously interesting keeping fish could be, i.e all of the chemistry/biology behind the actually keeping fish part!

You will be surprised how much knowledge you will gain on your tanks water chemistry when you cycle, very interesting.

i went to my local boots, look in the house hold cleaning bit, large boots home brand house hold ammonia £1.75

you guys were right it seemed to be a bacterial bloom I had, it has gone now and water is clear again.

As my water will have been in the tank for a week do you recommend some kind of water change before I start my cycle?

I would be inclined to start your cycle.

I will start it as soon as I can! I'm just waiting on delivery of my API master kit, going to get some ammonia tommorrow from boots.
