New Tank External Filter Question

Hi i am getting a new tank!! Its is 350ltr but the thing is i am not sure which filter to get i have heard that eheim are the best and i was wondering what you guys think? Also should i go for the 2217 or the 2215 the 2215 is max 350ltr or is it better to go 2217 which is 600ltr and know its not being over worked or would it damage the filter not having enough water in it? Any help would be great cheers Adam

2217 wont be big enough the manufacturers ratings are for the pump without any load ie media and pipes once you add media and pipes you will only get 50% of the out put you need a eheim 2080 or a fluval fx5
i have just been through this myself and after some reasearch and some good advise from members on here which stopped me making a huge mistake i went for the fx5 its more value for money than the eheim although the eheim has the better build quality i doubt its worth the extra £200
its also worth mentioning that you need a filter that can filter your tank 4x per hour
if you type into google search FLUVAL FX5 REVEIW theres an article which compaires the fx5 to the eheim 2080 this will give you a better understanding of what you need

from Eheim, i would look at the pro 2 2228. in classic, the 2260. you could go for 2x 2217, but, i feel, that's a bit low.

let me explain why i suggest so much filtration.
its suggested that a flow of 5x is, probably the best target to aim at. this seems simple until you realise the flows stated on the filter box is, more often than not, 50% of that stated. i don't mean the volumes, i am talking of "pump rates" here.
Eheim and Aqua one are, slightly, different. these makers publish "pump" and "flow" rates.(they also measure with a full set of media) even so, they tend to be 20-30% out, when measured.
ideally we are looking for a flow of, 1400lph, on your tank. so take a look at what's on offer. divide their flow claims by 2 (exceptions mentioned above). and you will get, some, idea how to go.
