Hey guys, I just purchased a new 44 gallon aquarium and have put in black sand, And I had an idea of making a star wars themed tank, so I am looking at purchasing models online. The main question is, are these safe to put in the tank? I intend to just buy cheap plastic models online, the kind you just snap together, also have a few that are pretty much one-word answers:

1.what adhesive materials are safe to put in a tank? If I actually build the models, will the cement compound affect the water or the fish?
2.If I need to build a small stand for them, I'm assuming I would just use a piece of PVC or acrylic plastic, but again, what to attach it with?
3.Is it safe to put painted models in, just in case the opportunity arises?

thanks for the help, I always look here first for answers!

As a huge STARWARS fan since I saw episode IV when it first came out, I was 7 I think  I look forward to seeing this :good:

Cant say I would do it myself but cant wait to see it.

To business the main glueing agent that most people use is aquarium safe silicon.

I have heard that some super glues are okay but which one's I am not sure, I have never used the stuff in a tank myself so research it first.

Good luck and please post a picture or two when its done

Regards onebto.

I don't know when it will be done but I'm definitely going to put up pictures. And I was leaning towards silicone myself, it should do the trick for whatever I need to glue. any advice or tips people might have on getting this done? I'm searching through ebay for some nice sized models

Plastic objects are usually quite safe and I think using aquarium silicone sealant is a good idea (let it cure quite a bit before putting the object in.) Paint is a whole 'nother thing and I'd be wary of that. As anyone whose had painted decorations over the years knows, tanks can be rough on the paint and what will happen to different paints vary. Personally I'd be reluctant but we can wait to hear other's opinions too.

Personally when I put any toys in a tank I just use kid-safe ones, you know the paint/plastic isn't toxic already, and they're usually tougher and cheaper.

they should be, but then again, they may not, some have metal components to helpkeep things together, they should be avoided, if you're unsure, you can always coat the whole thing (once in position) with a clear spray which is aquarium safe

I agree with the others, aquarium sealant is the safest bet here

As above, aquarium sealant... A piece of acrylic would do the job nicely i would have thought

depends what paint is used, if it's 100% latex paint, then yes.
