New Tank Arriving Monday

The first new inhabitants will definitely be Xenos, but not for a good few weeks yet. I'm annoyed at having to go to work now, I want to play with my new toy!

It`s a great feeling huh?

Knowing that you`re not very tall, you`ll definitely need a step ladder. Mind you, even with my step ladder I still can`t reach the bottom or the bottom/back of the tanks we have and I`ve had visions of going swimming with my fish sometimes


A large shoal of cyps would look brill, we`ll have to wait and see whether any of my females hold and spit successfully, IF they do I`ll give you a shout. I reckon a couple of calvus would work well in a tank that size for when they reach adult size, same as the ventralis.....excellent size for their zippiness

Wowzers, the 4ft really does get dwarfed by the new one. Funny thing is though that the 4ft will probably dwarf the tank it will be replacing at mine.

Looking good Jo, hopefully some day i will get a tank of that size! Until then though, your 4ft will have to surfice! Would collection be ok sometime around the 22nd of August onwards as we're off that week.

Minnnt: That's the same week I'm off work too, so that's fine!

Lisa: I'm going to need a stepladder for feeding, never mind cleaning it! When I lift the lid I can just peer over the top, the tank lid is level with my nose! Even my husband says it'll look great when it's running; I don't think he realises that is going to be 'scaped using sand, sand and more sand with a pile of rock for the Julie and a few others scattered around!

I'm itching to get it going but that curing time I'd forgotten about lasts until Sunday so I'm trying not to think about it - not easy when it's sat in the middle of the room like a giant pink elephant (except it's not pink and it's not an elephant....)

Hi, just laughing at previous posts, Lorna (my better half) can't reach the back when she's feeding the Trophs, whe sort of has the lid half open and still struggles

What finish did you go for on the cabinet, looks very familiar

I think the finish was 'Bureau Oak'. I let my husband choose as I knew he'd complain about whatever I went for... I think it's definitely time for me to invest in a home made 'Python' for water changes; the bucket method just won't work on this one! Unfortunately we've just had a letter informing us that we'll be having a water meter fitted in the next few months so water changes will be closely monitored by my husband!

What? How come? I thought they were only fitted if you wanted them to be?! No 50% weekly water changes for you!!

I know, that's what I thought too but aparrently it's some new thing that all properties are getting them and I don't know if it's just within our area or nationwide. We should be ok really as there's just the 2 of us and we're paying the same as a 4 person household at the moment as thye go on how big the house is at the moment (I think). Hopefully our costs won't go up as I use the fish water for watering the garden so it doesn't get wasted but with the 6 footer, I don't think I can use 50% of that every week just for watering!

Think I went for Lugano Oak but I don't see it on there site now, looks very similiar
I'm with you on the python, I'll have to set that up myself soon, I do 50% once per week on the Tropheus, I used to store a jerry can and buckets for a day or two before hand, now all the water going in is straight from the tap and treated in the tank, not ideal but seems ok as I can get the temp. roughly there. Takes and hour to do a water change

The DIY Pythons are a real life saver and very easy to put together.....just don`t have a laptop on the kitchen side when you`re trying it out I couldn`t carry on lugging buckets around because of my knackered shoulder and back but now I just sit, chill and have a cuppa while my tanks are emptying out and refilling, it`s great


Jo, don`t worry too much about the water meter, we have a meter installed and I do 2X 50% water changes per week (sometimes more) and it actually doesn`t cost very much more at all

Well, it's all up and running with no casualties during the swap over, phew! I haven't got the lighting sorted yet except for the moonlighting so they are making do with that for the time being. The multies are busy reorganising the pecking order so it'll be back to 2 colonies I think, just need even more shells! I'm making do with the same filters for the moment but in a fortnight I'll order an FX5.
An exhausting and worrying day but well worth it, particularly for the Lestradea and the Rainbows who are really taking advantage of all the extra space! Photos will follow as soon as I take some...
